Our Dream

We are nearly newly weds and we Love Life! Every day is full of adventure, especially when you choose to live with the perspective that there are no accidents. That there is a purpose for all things…every person you meet and interact with every day has a purpose. This philosophy used to be called “divine providence” also known as “fate” but I (Valley) just think it’s fun! Since Scott and I both grew up with the perspective that everyone is a friend just waiting to be discovered…part of our joyride is geared towards taking the opportunity to get to know our friends better…so if you are one of our new friends, thank you for taking the time to get to know us better by reading our page!

Another part of this grand adventure is to explore the beauty of our great country! I have talked with so many people who have seen so many beautiful places, and their eyes light up and they get super animated as they try to describe the beauty that they have experienced…this is contagious! We want to have our turn. We will try to help get the word out to anyone else that has a love for nature. We are going to be sharing photos of the national parks as we experience them. Although we have very limited experience taking pictures, you will get the picture, it just might not be professional quality!

The third part of this adventure has to do with our love for roadtrips…altough they’ve not been taken together! Scott’s 20+ year video business had him covering all of the Pacific Northwest and he is an expert on rural Washington, Idaho, Montana and parts of Oregon…but now it’s time to expand this territory! Valley, along with her mom and sister, has made 2 wonderful road trips, the first was the 29 hour road trip on the Alaskan Highway to Fairbanks, (including the bonus side-trip along the Alaskan pipe-line from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. I might add that this part of the trip was thanks to my brother Forest letting me set on a metal folding chair as he made his fuel run.) And second was the 32 hour trip from Idaho to Florida…both of these trips have been great motivators to do it again, without being in so much of a hurry. There were so many beautiful places that you just had to drive right by without getting out to explore. This Joy-Ride will have none of that! It is meant to be a way to escape the pressures of time all together. The goal is to allow the trip to unfold at its own pace.

Well that’s the gist of it! Thanks for taking the time to get to know us better and we hope that you will enjoy the ride!

  1. What a perfect name for your blog! Joyride really sums up the rv experience. My family is traveling the country for a year in an rv and loving it. We happened to park behind you at a WWII radar station in CA and took note of your web address. Great blog! Happy travels! 🙂

    • We finally have decent internet and I was blessed to have you message waiting for us! Thank you for looking us up…your page is great too…I can’t imagine how much more challenging traveling with your whole family would be…we are trying to synchronize all of our movements with just us (there are 3 when you add our dog Cinder) so I appreciate the challenge it would be to have your whole family involved…but super fun too! Have a blessed journey…I started to follow your blog so we can sort of travel together even as we go our seperate ways!

      • Traveling with the whole family certainly has its challenges, but so far we have had the most wonderful time! My kids enjoyed seeing your dog! Cinder looks and acts just like our Ellie (Ellie and our other big puppy are staying at a friend’s farm, because we didn’t think we could do kids AND big dogs in the RV!). I’m following your blog, too. I look forward to sharing our adventures! 🙂 -Anna

  2. Hey Valley and Scott, Anna and I were thrilled to meet some fellow travelers at Bumpass Hell. It was a lot of fun talking about our road trips and comparing rigs. Your blog looks great; so much nore accomplished than mine. I hope that as we explore the country, we might cross paths again. Gary

  3. Meeting you two on the commuter rail into work made that day so joyous and lovely. Your story, energy, passion, and love was infectious and a delight.
Enjoy every second of this journey and keep me up to date on your grand adventure.

  4. I’m so grateful that you made it to southern Maryland. It was great to see you. I applaud your adventuresome spirit and your commitment to engage others on your trip. The photos, the atlas with your routes and the adventures you shared were all appreciated. Thanks to this experience, you’ll return home with incredible memories!

Hello Scott and Valley, We met over a year ago – in Shenandoah at a trailhead. You graciously showed us your Rialta, shared your dream and inspired us to look for our own fuel efficient motorhome. We’ve only just begun on our adventures in our home on wheels, but also dream of traveling around this great nation to see its wonders. Thanks for sharing your dream and your journey. We’d love to stay in touch – Ron and Tina

    • Yay! We totally remember you both…we would love to stay in touch! What motorhome did you settle on? We sold the Rialta and bought a travel trailer that will sleep 6…for the grandkids…we took 3 short trips to the state parks here in North Idaho, but we miss the open road! When you come to the northwest pleas let us know…we’d love to reconnect!

      Scott and Valley
